![]() ![]() I know for sure the tack and speedo wont work. PCM on 06 controls everything on the instruments cruise, lockup ect. ![]() As far as the dash goes I am sure a 2006 gasser dash is totally incompatible with older 6.5. It is a lot of work to go from newer gas to older diesel. Goals for the truck are mild to moderate towing, along with loading up the kids for trips to the riding parks and some farm work. Thoughts? does the 4911 pump need the screw turned a 1/4 turn for the hx35? I want to just do a hx35w, and I'm thinking an ebay one should be sufficient. What needs to be done to get a 6.5 to mount into a gmt800 chassis? engine mount brackets? I live on the gulf coast, heat is a concern.I have the radiator from the 93, should i swap it out? should i try to fit an intercooler in there? my previous builds were done in the midwest and heat was of little concern. I sent an email to P***less wiring to see if they will build me a custom harness for a clean install. I'd like to be able to have all the gauges work, lockup, and cruise and such. I want to be able to use either pcm (not sure whats possible here) to control the 4l80. The plan is to install the 6.5 in place of the 6.0 using the TC from the 6.5 on the existing 4l80. ![]() i basically have every piece (i think) of 6.5 related equipment from the 6.5 donor truck. I went and bought a 1993 6.5td with 120k miles and 4l80 2wd. I bought another 6.0 takeout, it gets 8.0 mpg and drinks oil. original 6.0 lost cam and lifters despite being non DOD. Came out of retirement for one last go with a 6.5. built and swapped several 6.2/6.5s back then. Used to roam here years ago under the name MackManiac. I'll let you know about this '21 once I get a few miles on it.First post from a new account. Jus another tool for you to evaluate the truck you are considering. The average speed when I traded it in was 44MPH. My 2017 for example was used mainly in the summer months on road trips and was not a daily driver in the winter months. High average speed indicates a truck that was used on the highways on trips where it maintained higher speeds. Low average speed may indicate the truck was left idling or used around town as a daily driver. You can get a good idea how the truck you are considering was used by dividing the engine hours into the mileage and get an average speed of the truck over it's life time. ![]() I have not seen this posted anywhere before so I will share it for those looking for a used Duramax. Overall I don't think you can go wrong with the Duramax. Realize this is an older thread as I was looking for info on the '21, but wanted to share my reason for loving these trucks and yes I have not had the nightmares others have suffered or my opinion might be different. I could have kept the 2017 another few years, but why wait at these values. You just can't beat the Duramax for holding value. I just traded my 2017 Duramax with 49K and got $53K trade in value and walked away with a fully loaded 2021 LTZ, tax, license and 10-year extended warranty and rebates for $21K out of my pocket. It makes it easy to trade up when you get so much value on a trade in. If you wonder why I trade them in every 4-7 years is because these trucks are in high demand and really hold their value like nothing I have ever seen in my lifetime. I do a lot of towing going to car shows all over the country in the summer months (I am retired) and the Duramax has never failed me, not even a flat tire (knock on wood). Arriving this week, maybe today and can't wait to run that 10-speed Allison through the gears. That truck got 22MPH when not towing with cruise on set at 70MPH. Traded that in on a '17 and only issue was leaking OnStar antenna on the cab. Traded that in on an '12 and had a couple sensors replaced. Traded it in on an '07 which was a great truck, no issues at all. I had an '01 and solved the injector issue with a Cat Filter first out of the tank, then on to the OEM filter which was not a good filter and allowed a lot of junk through to the Injectors before I added the CAT filter. I have not had a bad one, a few small issues easily solved under the warranty or a solution found on this and other sites from members who always help. ![]()
